A civil construction course is your pathway to work in an operational, supervisory or management role within the civil construction field.  You'll develop capability to work across a range of areas – roads, rails, planes and ships to tunnelling and drainage systems. Our training includes working with hand and power tools, elevated work platforms, pipe laying and concreting.

Our Civil Construction department offers apprenticeship training in the general stream. Holmesglen's innovative model of delivery is based on the principles of 70/20/10 training where 70% is on the job, 20% is coaching and peer review, and 10% is classroom based learning.

Our training and assessment caters for varying entry levels while seeking to recognise your current skills and experience. Our qualified trainers come with a range of industry experience and we can customise training to suit your needs.

This program provides training on how to implement a traffic management plan and set up traffic control equipment as well as providing training in skid steer and roller operations under close supervision at our simulated site at Waverley.

During this course you will also undertake the Construction Induction unit (White Card) which is a prerequisite in construction and infrastructure workplaces.

Our civil construction traffic management skill set is being run as part of the Victorian Government’s Skills Uplift program and provides participants with the entry level skills and knowledge necessary to gain employment in civil construction to support the Victorian Government’s major infrastructure projects.

This course covers the skills you require to implement a traffic management plan in the civil construction industry and to control traffic with a stop-slow bat in the resources and infrastructure industries.

- setting out
- coordinating traffic
- operating radios
- monitoring and closing down the traffic guidance scheme
- cleaning up.
