Take the first steps into hospitality during your final year of school – with the Certificate II in Hospitality.

During this course, you’ll learn key hospitality skills such as how to interact with customers and receive and store stock. We also teach you food safety procedures and safe work practices.

Upon successfully completing your first year, you’ll be awarded a Certificate II in Hospitality.

You can then specialise in the Hospitality or Kitchen Operations stream – depending on which pathway you prefer.

You will develop your skills in food and beverage service, espresso coffee-making skills, bar service of alcoholic beverages and cocktails, and food and beverage knowledge. You will also learn about health and safety in the workplace, as well as how to handle complaints and communicate efficiently with your customers.

Subjects will also cover bookkeeping and running a small business.

After completing the course, you will have the skills to work in various service positions within cafes, catering enterprises, restaurants, bistros and accommodation venues.

If you are seeking a management position within the hospitality industry, this hands-on course gives you the training and development you need for your future career.

Your studies will involve placement in Holmesglen's student training restaurants (Zest at Waverley and Cilantro at Moorabbin) where you will learn the intricacies of front of house service.

You will apply your skills while learning in our fully equipped practical facilities, as well as enjoying work placement with our industry partners.

Subjects studied include the Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certification, practical training on food preparation, food serving and food safety, managing budgets and staffing, and an additional focus on barista training (essential for those wanting to work in Melbourne).

The course offers a fantastic overview of the tasks involved in supervising front of house at a restaurant or cafe - a perfect choice for those looking to work in the hospitality industry.

Career paths open to graduates include management roles in resorts, hotels, function centres, casinos, cruise liners and gaming venues.

This course incorporates the SIT50416 Diploma of Hospitality Management. If you have already completed the diploma, you may be able to complete this course in just six months.

Holmesglen's Bachelor of Hospitality Management (BHM) is a three-year degree for those aspiring to a career in hospitality management. The course provides operational and higher level management skills, contextualised for hospitality.

Students are challenged to collaborate and integrate technology, producing graduates who are confident in today's dynamic workplace. Students get the opportunity to put their learning into practice with two placement opportunities in the final year of study.

All BHM academic staff have extensive industry experience and higher education teaching experience. The facilities used by students include the Zest training restaurant, coffee-making and kitchen facilities, the Holmesglen at Eildon campus for conference and student recreation facilities, as well as off-site visits to hospitality and tourism venues and businesses within Melbourne and regional Victoria.
